International technology cooperation for an economy based urban circular IA and Optical technologies

The project,AI-Driven Decentralized Waste Segregation Solutions for High-Rise Buildings for Dubai's Circular Economy Transition, is led by the Dra. Abhilasha Singh, of the American University in the Emirates (AUE), and it has received a grant ofDubai Research, Development and Innovation Initiative.

This project focuses on development and integration of a decentralized technology segregation, adapted to buildings with disposal systems. Through the integration of a tool of materials separation based on artificial intelligence and a patented system of segregation, the solution to attain a precision nearly 100 per cent in the classification in origin.

The international consortium is composed of:

  • Dr. Abhilasha Singh (AUE): leads the performance and sustainability, based on its investigation on how the infrastructure and incentives influence the behaviour of recycling in the united arab emirates.
  • Dr. Khalid Asker (University Khalifa): expert in polymers characterization and classification of waste, classification, making High-precision and support integration and optimization of systems in buildings.
  • Dr. Ayoola Brimmo (Cycled Technologies): innovative and inventor winning main Cycled patents, brings broad experience in marketing and a boost to the pilot implementation of recycling and the strategy of the market in the long term.

The spanish company that join the consortium shall provide experience in advanced Optical characterization for identification of waste, including skills in one or more of the following fields:

  • Near infrared spectroscopy (NIR)
  • Images of millimetre (mmWave)
  • X-ray fluorescence (XRF) or transmission of X-rays (XRT)

The partner shall provide modules compact detection and integration or customisable optical drives that can adapt to stations waste segregation of very high altitudes smart or containers. Special attention will be given to the previous experience in sorting of waste materials, real-time or industrial automation, as well as the interest in collaborating with companies of compacting systems of waste.

Collaboration with the spanish company will be key for the phases of implementation and optimization technology project, helping to improve the accuracy of the classification, reduce the frequency of collection and supporting the objectives of the circular economy in urban communities.

This proposal may be submitted to the convening of 2025technology cooperation projects with international certification and unilateral follow-up, managed by the CDTI Innovation.
