R&D Projects are grants to R&D projects developed by companies and aimed at the creation and significant improvement of production processes, products or services.
They are presented in different modalities:
- Individual R&D projects: presented by a single company.
- National Cooperation R&D projects: presented by a consortium of a minimum of two and a maximum of six autonomous companies. They must sign a private partnership agreement that governs the consortium.
- R&D projects of International Technological Cooperation: presented by Spanish companies participating in international technological cooperation programs managed by the CDTI:
- Multilateral programmes EUREKA, IBEROEKA and PRIMA.
- Bilateral programs established by CDTI with Institutions and Funding Agencies of other countries under bilateral agreements.
- Program of international projects with certification and unilateral monitoring by CDTI.
- R&D projects of European Technological Cooperation, related to the enhancement of the technological capacity of Spanish companies to participate in the following initiatives and projects:
- Important Projects of Common European Interest (PIICE).
- Projects of the Institutional Partnership IHI (Innovative Health Initiative).
- Projects derived from Partenariados de Horizonte Europa.
- R&D projects of Technological Training for participation in international or national tenders, related to the enhancement of the technological capacity of Spanish companies to participate in tenders of projects and programs managed by international organizations in which the CDTI holds the Spanish representation, as well as technological training to participate in the tenders of the Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS).
- Large International Scientific-Technological Facilities.
- Singular Scientific and Technical Installations (ICTS) collected in the current Map of Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures.
- R&D projects for the development of dual technologies: related to the technological training of Spanish companies to tender in the field of Defense and Security.
- Proyectos de I+D Orientados, presentados por una única empresa, de gran tamaño y relevantes en ámbitos tecnológicos estratégicos.

Summary sheet of the assistance
CDTI projects of R&D
Aid for R&D projects developed by companies and aimed at the creation and significant improvement of production processes, products or services.
They may include both industrial research and experimental development activities.
There are no restrictions on the sector or the technology to be developed.
Companies.
Call open all year round.
All year round.
Partially refundable aid.
Fixed interest rate: Euribor at 1 year.
Support of up to 85% of the approved budget.
The company must contribute at least 15% of the project budget with its own resources.
Advance of up to 50% of the aid with a limit of 300,000 euros, without requiring additional guarantees.
Non-refundable tranche of between 10% and 33% of the aid.
Return:10 or 15 years including a shortage between 2 and 3 years.
The CDTI may require the creation of guarantees for the return of aid when the financial economic analysis of the company indicates so.
Where appropriate, the CDTI may apply a derogation or exemption from the guarantees requested.
Minimum Eligible Budget: 175,000 euros
Duration: 12 to 36 months. From 12 to 48 months in the case of National Cooperation projects.

Projects co-financed with ERDF Funds must demonstrate compliance with the DNSH principle.
Technology projects with an exclusively military application may not be co-financed with ERDF.

All supported expenses must be allocated exclusively or derived directly from the supported R&D activity.
Personnel costs; instrument and material costs; contract research costs, technical knowledge and acquired patents, consultancy and equivalent services; supplementary general expenses and other expenses arising from the project are eligible for assistance. Expenditure derived from the auditor’s report and expenditure from the DNSH compliance assessment report are also eligible.
External collaborations may not exceed 65% of the generally eligible budget.
Certain project activities may be subcontracted to other companies or research agencies.
Criteria for technical evaluation:
- Commercial exploitation plan of the project.
- Technology and innovation of the project.
- Capacity of the company or consortium.
- Assessment of socio-economic impact, gender perspective and sustainability.
Criteria for financial evaluation:
- Analysis of the consideration of a company in crisis.
- Economic-financial and risk analysis.
- Economic and financial analysis of the project.
- Economic and financial adaptation of each company to the companies it carries out in the project.
The aid will be considered to have an incentive effect if, before starting work on the project, the beneficiary has submitted his request for aid to the CDTI in writing.
- In projects financed with CDTI funds, the aid is incompatible with any other public aid earmarked for the same project (except for the exceptions provided in the detail sheet of the instrument).
- In projects co-financed with European funds managed by the CDTI, the aid is compatible with any other public aid provided that its source of funding does not come from the EU budget.
- The aid is incompatible with any private aid whose source of funding comes from EU Budget funds.
This aid will comply with Article 25 of Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market pursuant to Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty (General Block Exemption Regulation).
