The CDTI SICC Innvierte of Innovation invests, together with Mondragón promotion fund, in ROBOPEDICS RCF for the development of a solution for robotised orthopaedic stroke patients
The stroke is the third global cause of disability and the inability to walk is a frequent and one of the most serious. Between 20 and 25 per cent of all survivors to a stroke are unable to walk without a full physical aid and never regain functional ability. They Need a wheelchair for life and suffering from mental health and social and emotional disorders that this causes
The purpose of BIONIC MOBILITY SOLUTIONS, S.L. (ROBOPEDICS) is to improve the quality of life and health of these people, who will never get rehabilitated, but, thanks to the technological solution of ROBOPEDICS allows them to stand up again and walk again, to help alleviate the numerous health problems and disorders associated with the use of the handicapped and empoderándolos to recover their independence.
The objective of this endeavour is to develop its technology and the conditions that make it possible to walk every day, without medical supervision, in your environment, to provide a real alternative to wheelchair, devolviéndoles joy and hope to them and their loved ones.
The CDTI, through Innovation Innvierte, just closed an operation of investment in this endeavour with Mondragón promotion fund, RCF 135,000 euros, with a cumulative investment of 540,000 euros.
ROBOPEDICS
ROBOPEDICS has a senior team composed of founders and advisers with extensive experience in positions of responsibility in multinational companies and some of the major hospitals in spain. This team is complemented with young people, competent and motivated, as well as with strategic partners, such as:
- Mondragón corporation (main investor and industrial associate)
- The institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (scientific partner)
- Hospitals and Hospital Clínic, sea and Parc Salut Germans Trias i Pujol (partners in clinical research)
- Clarke Modet (adviser on intellectual property)
- Tecno-med Engineers (regulatory adviser)
The unique technology AWAKE, developed by ROBOPEDICS, is specifically designed for persons with cerebral or weakness in one side of the body due to a stroke, allowing them to walk robotizando only affected the leg. This approach represents a revolutionary step forward compared to existing exoesqueletos, originally developed for core injuries requiring robotic support to both legs.
Promotion fund mondragón, RCF
The fund managed by the Key manager Capital, which aims to invest in technology-based enterprises in any of the areas of interest of more than one hundred cooperatives in the Mondragón Group (industrial and automotive B2B solutions, health, etc), in order to create positive synergies in the investees and cooperatives. Investments can vary between 250,000 and €€2,000,000, assuming risks associated with investment seed. The heritage of this fund is $15 million euro and its time horizon is 10-12 years.
Innvierte
Innvierte is an initiative aimed at promoting the entrepreneurial innovation through support to the risk capital investment in technology-based enterprises or innovative programme. This is done through the collective investment type closed Innvierte Sustainable Economy SICC S.M.E., S.A., self-managed and under the supervision of the national Values and that the CDTI Innovation is a shareholder Only.
To date, the CDTI innovation has committed 2,183 M €in 57 investment vehicles that have invested in more than 602 companies, and through its joint investment line directly committed an amount of 632 M €in 188 businesses.
Innvierte fits into the strategy for science, technology and innovation 2021-2027, adopted by decision of the council of ministers, in september. This 2020 Strategy contains goals, the reforms and measures to be taken throughout the area of r + D + i in order to boost their growth and impact, and is one of the pillars on which the design of the government's policy in r + D + i for the coming years.
