Rubén Fernández, CEO and founder member of Ewala: “ Have the support of the CDTI and Innovation of european funds MRR has enabled us to lay the groundwork for a solution of cybersecurity designed for industrial environments heterogeneous and "restrictions
The asturian company specialized in industrial cybersecurity develops SentryN3t Protection, a platform that protects industrial networks in real time. Its project, supported by the CDTI Innovation and the european funds recovery Mechanism and resilience, combines artificial intelligence and analysis of trafficking to detect threats in OT and IoT, even in older systems
Security has become a key priority for all business sectors. This means that industrial infrastructures, traditionally isolated, are increasingly connected and therefore exposed to threats that once affected Only the IT environment. Protecting systems OT (technologies of operation), both old and often difficult to update, has become a key challenge to ensure the continuity of business and security.
In this context is born Ewala, an innovative company de Base tecnológica (TECHNOLOGY) specialized in industrial cyber security and development of technological solutions. Founded with the vocation to offer real protection for critical environments, the company combines a deep technical knowledge with a clear guidance to the applied innovation.
Rubén Fernández, CEO and founder member states: “ Ewala Founded with the intention of bringing security to smes and with many ideas which have been gradually transformed into innovative projects ”, and adds: “ one of our objectives is to help to all types of companies, raising public awareness about the risks that a plant or suffer a cyber attack warehouse and making these services accessible regardless of the size of the organization ”.
A platform that protects industrial networks within
With the support of Innovation, CDTI through Neotec and with european funding of the mechanism for the recovery and Resilience, Ewala has developed SentryN3t Protection, a platform of cybersecurity specifically designed for industrial environments. The project was created with a clear objective: to detect deviant behaviour in networks OT and IoT in real time, even in infrastructure with old devices or without modern measures of protection.
The result is a solution that evolves into an industrial CITY CENTRE (Network Detection and Response), a technology that analyses the network traffic to identify threats without the need to intervene directly in the systems. This platform combines passive inspection, patterns of behaviour, learning and intelligent automatic display, all dedicated to facilitate a rapid response by both teams staff IT.
“ we wanted to build a tool that not only alertara of possible incidents, but actually help take speedy and coordinated action at the factory, ” says CEO.
To that end, the system learns how to communicate the devices normally and launches alert to any significant deviation. In Addition, easily integrates with other management tools, encouraging partnerships between departments and minimizing the impact on daily operations.

Industrial cybersecurity adapts without interrupting
One of the keys to SentryN3t Protection is its capacity to integrate in industrial environments without altering its functioning. Many of the devices present in factories or plants could not be updated or modified without jeopardizing production. Meeting this challenge, Ewala proposes a strategy capable of monitoring without interfering, learning the normal behaviour of network traffic to detect abnormalities without amending the existing systems. “ we work with fragile devices cannot touch. The key is to adapt to them, not vice versa, ” explains the founding partner.
This philosophy overstock the solution even at heterogeneous environments and low level of digitization, to facilitate a gradual adoption without compromising the operational. Thanks to its versatile design, the solution can be applied to a broad range of industrial sectors — from the manufacture to logistics or the treatment of water —, adapting to environments with different levels of digitization and mixed technologies.
In addition, one of the strengths of the project has been implemented through validation pilots in real businesses. “ These tests have enabled us to validate our technology into real environments with different levels of maturity and cyber-digital ”, underlines Fernández.
European solution, flexible and adapted to real industrial environment
SentryN3t Protection goes one step further by providing a tool developed in full in the european union, aligned with industrial standards of the continent and committed to the sovereignty of technology.
Its design accessible, lightweight and rapid integration facilitates effective adoption both in large companies and smes and its intuitive interface allows for streamlined management of incidents without special training.
“ if the tool is clear for all, the response to threats is quicker and more effective, ” highlights Fernández.

Commitment to the industrial ecosystem asturian
Since its birth, Ewala has opted to generate a direct impact on the industrial fabric of their environment. Based in Asturias, the company works in three fronts that reinforce regional competitiveness: resilience to cyber attacks, employment generation and the revitalization of the ecosystem of innovation. “ We Offer practical solutions, accessible and adapted to the regional industrial environment, to incorporate cybersecurity OT without great technological change, ” explains Fernández.
But the input is not technical. Ewala also promotes local talent by specialized profiles on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or analysis of data, with an approach that combines innovation and attachment: “ We Generate stable employment and quality, and we offer an environment where technological talent can develop and lead projects with real impact, ” he adds.
The company is participating actively in the regional ecosystem r & D, collaborating with universities, technology centres and companies tractoras, to contribute to a more secure asturian industry, modern and sustainable development.
Looking ahead: expansion and innovation
After validate your solution in real environments, Ewala is preparing to escalate its model: be consolidated in the domestic market and to expand at european level. In addition, the team has been operating in the development of a unified platform that combines cybersecurity, efficiency and predictive maintenance project, with the objective of provide added value beyond the protection. “ the idea is that companies do not have to choose between security and productivity, but you are able to make progress on both at the same time, ” explains the founding partner.
For the medium term, are also exploring new avenues of innovation as the integration of blockchain technologies to improve industrial traceability, and the strengthening of security in environments with models of artificial intelligence.
All this, without losing its original mission: “ create solutions available, accessible and realistic, adapted to what you really need the industry today, ” concludes Fernández.
