The CDTI Innovation will finance the Spanish participation in the call 2026 of the European partnership Clean Energy Transition
The initiative, co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the Horizon Europe programme, will finance collaborative R&D&I projects aimed at the development and demonstration of technologies for the transition to clean and sustainable energy systems.
On June 8, the fifth annual call for proposals was launched for the European Partnership Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP), an initiative aimed at creating a broad network of European funding agencies to promote the transition to clean and sustainable energy systems. Among its priorities are the development and demonstration of new technologies and solutions, the creation of innovation ecosystems that boost capacities at all levels and the implementation of a transformative Transnational Joint Programming Platform.
This initiative will finance projects that develop application solutions and provide results for the clean energy transition. Most projects are expected to contemplate solutions that achieve levels of technological readiness in TRL 6-8, combining technologies, results with market potential and stakeholder participation.
The call 2026 is divided into 11 thematic modules aimed at different technologies and/or energy systems:
- CM2026-01: Resilience of the integrated energy system in a changing environment
- CM2026‑02: Flexibility of the energy system in a scenario with high penetration of renewable energy sources: generation, storage and system integration
- CM2026-03A: Advanced renewable energy technologies for power generation (Research-Oriented Approach)
- CM2026-03B: Advanced renewable energy technologies for energy generation (Innovation-Oriented Approach)
- CM2026-04: Industrial Carbon Management
- CM2026-05: Hydrogen and renewable fuels
- CM2026-06: Stationary battery systems and technologies for a climate-neutral built environment and industry
- CM2026-07: Heating and cooling technologies
- CM2026-08: Integrated regional energy systems
- CM2026-09: Integrated industrial energy systems
- CM2026-10: Integration of clean energy into the built environment
Projects must be submitted in international consortia made up of at least three independent entities from three participating countries that are eligible for funding by their respective national/regional Funding Agency. Of these three entities, at least two must be Member States of the European Union or countries associated with Horizon Europe.
Some modules of the call for proposals also establish specific requirements or additional restrictions that must be met.
Information day for Spanish companies
With the aim of facilitating the preparation of proposals, the CDTI Innovation will organize on June 18 an information day in online format aimed at Spanish companies interested in participating in the call. During the session, the main characteristics of the call will be presented and doubts about the conditions of participation and financing will be resolved.
Aid CDTI
The CDTI Innovation will finance through grants the participation of Spanish companies whose projects are selected in the international call for proposals. The aid shall be determined on a case-by-case basis according to the actual eligible cost of each project, the characteristics of the participating entity and budgetary availability, subject to the limits established under the General Block Exemption Regulation:
- 60% for small businesses
- 50% for medium-sized enterprises
- 40% for large companies
In case of budgetary availability by the CDTI, the aid intensity could reach 70% for all entities.
Phases
The announcement has two phases:
- Deadline for submission of pre-proposals: 08/10/2026, 14:00 CEST
- Deadline for submission of complete proposals: 11/03/2027, 14:00 CET
Each Spanish company participating in a consortium must send, through the electronic headquarters of the CDTI Innovation, a preliminary PAR application with a deadline of October 8, 2026. This request consists of an online form accompanied by a technical report that describes, in Spanish, the R&D activities and the budget corresponding to the participation of the company in the international proposal.
