The CDTI Innovation and SODERCAN reinforce their collaboration to promote business innovation and technological cooperation in Cantabria

The CDTI Innovation and the Society for Regional Development of Cantabria (SODERCAN), on behalf of the Government of Cantabria, have held at the headquarters of the CDTI Innovation in Madrid the 8th Joint Monitoring Committee of the collaboration agreement for the promotion of innovation and technological development in this autonomous community. The meeting has made it possible to review the evolution of the activity and the participation of the Cantabrian entities in national and international R+D+i programs.

At the national level, the Cantabrian entities have acceded to a wide range of instruments of the CDTI Innovation for the development of R+D+i projects. Since 2022, 58 operations have been approved, corresponding to different support instruments. These include R&D projects, Science and Innovation Missions, the Cervera program, Dual R&D Projects or NEOTEC grants, as well as actions related to the aeronautical, space and health sectors.

This diversity of instruments allows companies to be accompanied at different stages of their technological development, from the creation and consolidation of technology-based companies to the development of more far-reaching R&D projects and the incorporation of new technologies into processes and products.

This collaboration also extends to other instruments aimed at strengthening the innovative ecosystem. Within the scope of INNVIERTE, CDTI has carried out in Cantabria a strategic co-investment operation in BOUND 4 BLUE, contributing to reinforce the capitalization and growth of a technological company with potential for productive activity.

The Public Purchase of Innovation is also a way to encourage the participation of Cantabrian companies in the development of innovative technological solutions. In this area, two companies from the community have been selected for the development of Pre-Commercial Public Procurement solutions linked to the INNOVATRIAL and DONES projects.

International technological cooperation is another of the areas analysed during the Joint Committee. Since 2022, three international technological cooperation projects have been approved with the participation of Cantabrian entities, within the framework of Eureka initiatives and bilateral programs. Together, these projects have mobilised a budget of 1.83 million euros, with a contribution from the CDTI Innovation of more than 1.55 million euros.

In addition, the participation of the Cantabrian entities in Horizonte Europa offers opportunities to strengthen their presence in the main European R+D+I programs. According to the provisional data analyzed, 31 Cantabrian entities have obtained 33.1 million euros in funding, corresponding to 115 approved participations, 16 of them coordinated. Companies account for 37.1% of regional returns, followed by universities, with 26.4%, and public research centres, with 15.9%.

The CDTI Innovation will continue working with SODERCAN to strengthen the participation of Cantabrian companies and entities in national, European and international programs, facilitating access to financing instruments, technological cooperation and specialized accompaniment. The coordination between the two entities will continue to expand the opportunities of companies in the region, promote their connection with other innovation ecosystems and strengthen their capacity to develop competitive technologies and access new markets.

It is the innovation agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, whose objective is the promotion of technological innovation in the business environment. The mission of the CDTI is to ensure that the Spanish business fabric generates and transforms scientific and technical knowledge into globally competitive, sustainable and inclusive growth. In 2025, within the framework of the Strategic Plan 2024-2027, the CDTI provided 2,423 million euros of support to Spanish companies and startups.
