The centre for technological development and innovation (CDTI Innovation) and the agency of Science, Business Competitiveness and innovation In Asturias (Sekuens) held yesterday, thursday, 3 july, at the seat of the CDTI in Madrid, the seventh meeting of the mixed commission to follow up the cooperation agreement signed between the two entities to encourage innovation and technological development in the principality of Asturias.
During the meeting reviewed the results achieved in recent years and identified major actions undertaken within the framework of the convention, which since its signing in 2019 — and its extension in 2023 — has enabled us to consolidate a close collaboration between the two institutions. Topics included noticeable progress in project funding, the evolution of subsidies, the asturian participation in international programmes of R + D + I and the action planned until the next Commission.
Thanks to this collaboration, Asturias has consolidated a remarkable activity in r & D & I projects, with more than 100 initiatives adopted in recent years. In total, from 2021 have backed 116 business projects amounting to about 70 million euros of investment mobilized, at a ratio of CDTI over 50 million euros. This funding has resulted in the form of grants and subsidies partially refundable, who have contributed to strengthening technological capacities of asturian business fabric and generate impact in key sectors for the regional economy.
In particular, the convening Neotec 2025, which is promoting new initiatives of high technological potential through support to companies, has led to a special interest between companies asturianas, with a total of 16 requests presented by entities of the region. This consolidates to Asturias as a territory with a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.
At the international level, the participation of the entities asturianas has also shown a very positive development. In the past five years, 17 projects international technology cooperation programmes in multilateral, bilateral and unilateral R + D + I with the participation of the principality have obtained funding by the CDTI. This conference is complemented by an increasing presence in the Horizon In europe, in which the entities asturianas have submitted more than 700 proposals, of which 156 were adopted, making a success rate of 21.2 per cent, higher than the national average. These results show a significant step forward compared to the previous framework programme (H2020), where the rate of regional success was 12.7 per cent, and consolidate the role of Asturias as an actor increasingly active role in the european scene of r + D + I.
This new Joint Commission reaffirms the joint commitment of both institutions to continue to work closely to promote an ecosystem innovative sound and competitive in the principality of Asturias. Both entities will continue to work in a coordinated manner to promote new funding opportunities, improve the connection between national and regional instruments and to broaden the participation of the entities asturianas in international and national initiatives of I + D + I.
