The CDTI Innovation formalizes with the FEI the investment of 74.7 million in the Asabys Innvierte Tech Transfer FCRE fund through the Innvierte Deep Start program
- The Asabys Innvierte Tech Transfer FCRE fund, managed by Asabys Partners, is the second action of the Innvierte Deep Start program for the mobilization of public-private capital in deep technology projects of high technological risk and international scaling potential.
- This operation is part of the actions of the National Deep Tech Strategy of Spain 2026-2030 in the field of health and biotechnology
The Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), the innovation agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, has formalized through the program Innvierte Deep Start the joint investment with the European Investment Fund (EIF) of 74.7 million euros in the fund Asabys Innvierte Tech Transfer FCRE, managed by Asabys Partners, reinforcing the institutional impulse with the transfer of knowledge from research centers to the market in the field of life sciences, health and biotechnology.
The Asabys Innvierte Tech Transfer FCRE fund, specialized in biotechnology and medical technologies, will invest in the creation and development of innovative companies in the field of deep technologies applied to health based on Spanish scientific excellence, with special focus on technology transfer from universities, hospitals and research centers. The fund will invest in very early stages, including both the creation of academic spin-offs and the incubation of projects that require pre-seed funding to reach a proof of concept with an industrial approach. The objective is to promote companies that maximize the use of deep-tech technologies such as artificial intelligence, supercomputing, synthetic biology and new materials, as well as new therapeutic modalities.
This operation is the second investment of the Innvierte Deep Start instrument in the scope of the National Deep Tech Strategy of Spain 2026-2030, specifically, in the vertical of health and biotechnology. The Innvierte Deep Start instrument is endowed, together, with 353 million euros, of which 300 are contributed by MICIU through the CDTI’s Innvierte SICC and 53 million by the FEI. CDTI’s Innvierte Deep Start programme focuses on strengthening MICIU’s strategy for boosting Spanish innovation in early stages (TRL 2-4), strengthening the value chain and transfer from universities and R&D centres to market scaling and internationalisation to turn Spanish research into high value-added solutions.
With this investment, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the CDTI-Innvierte reinforce their leadership in public policies to promote innovation and technology transfer to consolidate the access of Spanish scientific research to the financial and strategic channel necessary to become real solutions that improve the lives of citizens, enhance the competitiveness of the Spanish economy and position Spain as an international reference destination for funds specialized in deep-tech.
In this scheme of joint indirect co-investment, the CDTI-Innvierte and the FEI act as limited partners (Limited Partners) that support the work of professional managers, channeling resources towards funds with a solid track-record in technological, financial compliance and ESG criteria of sustainability. For its part, the collaboration of the CDTI-Innvierte with the EIF and the support of InvestEU, which partially cofinances the operation, adds a European dimension to the initiative, amplifying the visibility of Spanish startups and attracting international co-investments.
