The CDTI Innovation seeks a Spanish company to collaborate with Senegal in water treatment technologies
The initiative proposes the development and pre-commercial validation of innovative solutions for water treatment in a plant located in the Senegalese region of Fatick
The Senegalese public company SONES (Société Nationale des Eaux du Sénégal), established in 1995 by the State of Senegal, is the entity responsible for the management of the drinking water system in urban and peri-urban areas of the country. Its functions include guaranteeing access to water for the population, managing hydraulic infrastructures, planning and financing projects related to water supply and supervising the quality of the service.
The proposal focuses on addressing several challenges identified at the Fatick treatment plant through the development and validation of technologies that can be subsequently scaled. Among them stands out the high mineralization of water, associated with phenomena of marine intrusion and evaporation, which translates into high levels of salinity.
In addition, the area has concentrations of fluoride in groundwater above the levels recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), which is one of the main challenges for the treatment of water intended for human consumption. The water also has pH values close to neutrality or slightly alkaline and a high hardness derived from its mineral content.
The proposed proposal aims to be presented to the 2026 call for International Technological Cooperation Projects with Certification and Unilateral Monitoring, which remains open throughout the year.
