The proposal will be presented to the 2026 call for international technological cooperation projects with certification and unilateral monitoring

The collaboration with BITS Pilani University in Dubai is oriented to the development of an R&D project focused on the assessment of the risk of diabetes and lung cancer through the analysis of breath biomarkers with technologies based on artificial intelligence

The initiative is part of the AIRE+ project, led by Dr. Elakkiya Rajasekar and awarded by the Dubai Research Development and Innovation Programme. AIRE+ aims to revolutionise the early detection of diseases by analysing exhaled breath, which contains volatile organic compounds associated with underlying metabolic and pathological processes.

By integrating advanced sensor technologies with artificial intelligence, the project seeks to decipher these biomarkers and enable accurate and non-invasive prediction of the risk of chronic diseases, in particular diabetes and lung cancer.

The Emirati consortium will develop and validate an integrated prototype under controlled laboratory conditions, with the aim of reaching a level of technological maturity TRL 5, through the integration of detection modules, AI-based risk scoring models and defined validation protocols.

The Spanish company must be able to undertake the development necessary to evolve the solution from a TRL 5 to a TRL 7. The planned activities include:

  • Advanced sensor calibration and drift compensation under environmental variability.
  • Improvement of signal conditioning and noise reduction architectures.
  • Optimization of integrated artificial intelligence models for stable and low-consumption inference.
  • Modelling of robustness against physiological and contextual variability.
  • Hardware-software integration at the system level.
  • Validation of reliability and performance of structured tests in pilot environments.

The proposal aims to present itself to the 2026 call for international technological cooperation projects with certification and unilateral monitoring, which will have several cuts throughout the year, being next in March 2026.
