The CDTI Innovation seeks a Spanish company to collaborate with Egypt in an R&D project in bioactive dental materials
The project proposes to incorporate a bioactive borate glass capable of transforming dental restorations, improving their durability and providing antibacterial properties
The Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Alexandria (Egypt) is looking for a Spanish company to collaborate in an R&D project aimed at the development of new bioactive dental materials with improved performance.
The Egyptian research team has developed and patented a new bioactive borate glass with a unique ability to transform completely into hydroxyapatite, as well as a potential antibacterial effect, making it a promising candidate to improve current dental materials.
The proposal proposes adding this bioactive glass to different dental materials available on the market, in order to increase its durability within the oral cavity and provide new functionalities. In addition, the material could be used to strengthen toothpastes applied on healthy enamel, especially in patients with high risk of caries or with dentinal hypersensitivity. Its potential to act as a protective barrier against the acid attack of bacterial biofilm could contribute to reducing the prevalence of caries.
Therefore, the research project aims to evaluate the incorporation of bioactive borate glass in different resin mixtures, in order to optimize the physical and chemical properties of the resulting adhesive restorations in dental materials.
The proposed proposal aims to present the call 2025 for the development of R&D projects between Spanish and Egyptian entities, within the framework of the Egypt-Spain Innovation Program (ESIP), open until December 3, 2025.
