This project takes in the area of agriculture and seeking to make progress in detection technologies and management of this viral disease, since 1936, has severely limited the production of cocoa in Ghana, côte d'ivoire, Togo and Nigeria. It is estimated that more aggressive strains of the virus, transmitted by the mealy cocoa off, can reduce the performance by up to 70 per cent and lead to the death of the trees within two to three years.
Currently, the detection of the disease occurs by PCR techniques (reaction polymerase chain), albeit with limited effect. For that reason, the development of protocols that allow improved early identification and precisely of the virus is seen as crucial to curb its spread and minimise their impact.
More than 2,000 employees, Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana develops sustainable technologies and socially responsible for crops such as cocoa, coffee, shea and cashew nuts.
