Next opening of the third call of the European Partnership FutureFoodS with the participation of the CDTI Innovation
La convocatoria, prevista para principios de noviembre, apoyará proyectos internacionales de I+D+i orientados a impulsar sistemas alimentarios europeos más sostenibles, saludables, seguros y resilientes
The European partnership “Sustainable Future of Food Systems” (FutureFoodS) is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of Horizon Europe and aims to contribute to the transformation of food production and consumption in Europe towards more sustainable and resilient models. The partnership brings together experts, research institutions, R&D&I funding agencies, companies and policy makers to develop joint solutions to challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and food security. Through their annual calls for funding international research projects, the participating funding agencies and the European Commission support projects aimed at addressing the problems identified in the Partnership’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda.
In this context, FutureFoodS is preparing the launch of its third annual call for funding of international research projects, with the participation of the CDTI Innovation. The opening is scheduled for early November 2026 and the deadline for submission of proposals is estimated to be mid-January 2027.
Topics of research
The call for 2026, entitled “GETS – Getting Everyone Together for Sustainable food systems: empowered consumers, innovative sustainable products and trusted value chains”, aims to support projects that contribute to transforming European food systems towards more sustainable, healthy, safe and resilient models.
The proposals should address one of the following three preliminary thematic areas:
- Sustainable, transparent and trusted food value chains, addressing aspects related to certification, traceability, labelling, sustainable purchasing, equity and cooperation across value chains.
- Consumer choice and food environments that favour healthy, safe and sustainable practices, including aspects such as food literacy, access and affordability of food, inclusion and behavioural changes.
- Innovative processing for sustainable, safe and nutritious food products, including product diversification, the use of alternative food sources and the development of processing technologies that preserve their natural characteristics.
The call will focus especially on the post-harvest area, so activities related to primary production are not their object.
Grants from the CDTI Innovation
The CDTI Innovation will grant a grant to Spanish companies whose projects are selected in the call for FutureFoodS. The amount of aid shall be determined individually on the basis of the actual eligible cost of the project, the characteristics of the beneficiary and budgetary availability, subject to the aid intensity limits laid down in the General Block Exemption Regulation: 60% for small businesses, 50% for medium-sized businesses and 40% for large businesses. In case of budgetary availability by the CDTI, the aid intensity could reach 70% for all entities.

It is recommended that each partner contact their funding agency as soon as possible, once a possible project idea has been identified.
