Interview with José Miguel Sánchez King, founding partner of Eficae Iotech “ with the momentum of Innovation and CDTI european funds MRR MiLuz, we have transformed into an active tool to optimize efficiency in real time ”

Energy efficiency has been consolidated as a strategic priority for the industry, particularly in the context of ecological transition, digitization and pressure to reduce operating costs. In this scenario, innovative solutions that go beyond mere monitoring of consumption, proposing a model of active management and automated. One example is MiLuz, platform developed by Eficae Iotech technology company extremadura, supported by the CDTI Neotec of Innovation and financed by european funds of the mechanism for the Recovery and Resilience.

MiLuz is the result of years of experience of the task Eficae Iotech energy counseling and a necessity detected directly on the market: the lack of tools adapted to the real demands of the industrial environment.

José Miguel Sánchez King, founding partner of the company says that “ Eficae Iotech arises with the mission to develop technological solutions that would allow energy monitoring. After years using tools of the market, we can see a serious deficiency: systems were not adapted to real needs of the consumer. For this reason, we decided to create our own solution, much more flexible, detailed-oriented energy decision-making based on data ”.

MiLuz: intelligent platform to measure, to analyse and optimise energy consumption

The technological solution developed by Eficae Iotech is presented as a platform SaaS (Software as a Service) that combines hardware and software in an integrated ecosystem, able to collect, process and act on energy data of an installation in real time. “ MiLuz is our system of monitoring. Relies on a data logger that integrates multiple sensors and equipment already present in the installation, actively collecting data both general and specific techniques through submetering ”, detailed Sánchez King.

These data, after being cleaned and organized in a local first phase, are sent to a server or local — in the cloud — where analysis algorithms developed by the company itself. The platform not only set to display these data clearly and accessible, but also generate recommendations and, where necessary, remedial processes activated automatically.

Of measurement to action: automation in the service of the efficiency

One of the main MiLuz differentials is its ability to move from monitoring to action, automating decisions to optimize the energy consumption. This is possible thanks to its integration with elements of the industrial system, such as variable frequency or networks of PLC. “ we can send commands to act to various processes, or defining automatizándolos slogans of action that will be sent to the manager for validation or performance ”, explains the founding partner.

This proactive approach makes MiLuz tool of energy management in real time. The platform is able to detect consumption inefficient, proposing measures and to act directly on the systems for improving energy efficiency, reduce costs and contribute to sustainability.

From a technical point of view, MiLuz operates with three layers: Edge, Fog and Cloud. This structure allows for more efficient management and safe. “ Product design has led us to include a new layer, ‘ Fog ’, which reduces the maximum benefits type Edge devices and limit the interaction of the Cloud with the internet network, ” explains Sánchez King. “ Our layer Fog developing in the local environment the functionalities of the Cloud, which improves security processes, optimize and allows a better treatment of data through the distributed computing ”.
This design reinforces the resiliency against possible cyber attacks and advanced algorithms allow you to run faster and less reliance on connectivity, something particularly valuable in harsh industrial environments.

One of the great strengths of MiLuz is their ability to adapt to different environments. From small installations with moderate consumption to large industrial complexes with multiple points of measurement, the platform is adapted to the specific needs of each client. the “ system MiLuz is versatile and adaptable to any sector or installation, either of consumption, generation or storage of energy. But where it really makes the difference is in the industrial sphere electrointensivo, ” says.

Measurable impact and continuous improvement

The platform is now in place in companies of all sizes, from small businesses that use MiLuz with standard devices, large-scale industries to more than 30 measuring points assets. This experience has revealed significant energy inefficiencies. “ there is a fixed but we have clients who have managed to identify inefficiencies in the order of 15-20 per cent in their energy consumption ”, stresses Sánchez King.

Thanks to the feedback of these facilities, Eficae Iotech continues to improve its system. “ we are to gather information from clients to identify mistakes and continue to evolve the tool. The development of MiLuz would not have been possible without the momentum of CDTI Neotec of Innovation. “ Neotec has made a big momentum that has enabled us, given the difficulties emerging that a company may have to maintain I + D, carrying out a detailed investigation not to lose MiLuz pace to the advancement of technology, ” explains Sánchez King.

A vision for the future, focusing on innovation

Eficae Iotech does not stop there. Currently, works with new projects as VIRTEC for managing virtual energy communities, and has in mind a new project, POWERTUNE, to optimize the management of energy in microrredes. “ We Will Continue To research and develop features that will generate real impact, while we deploy our trade strategy to bring MiLuz at another level in the market, ” concludes its founding partner.
