Making it easier for textile companies to move from design to production more quickly, accurately and sustainably is the goal of Dimtech 3D. With the support of the NEOTEC Women Entrepreneurs program of the CDTI Innovation, the company develops Twin Pattern Fit, an R&D project that combines artificial intelligence, automation and digital twins to optimize the design, scaling and validation of garments

For a technology to succeed it has to be useful, understandable and applicable in the day-to-day life of a factory

Although the textile industry has advanced in its digitalization in recent years, many critical processes continue to depend on manual tasks that slow down the development of new collections. Adapting a pattern to different sizes, evaluating the result of a garment before manufacturing it or preparing the technical documentation for its production remain works that require numerous revisions and, in many cases, the elaboration of successive physical prototypes.

It was precisely this disconnection between design and manufacturing that drove the creation of Dimtech 3D. Established in October 2024, the Murcian company arises from the experience of its team in projects of personalized design, three-dimensional visualization and automation applied to the textile and sports sector. After collaborating with different manufacturers, they identified a common problem: many companies had incorporated digital tools at certain stages of the process, but they still depended on manual procedures at equally decisive stages.

With that idea, Dimtech 3D was born: “Our proposal is to apply artificial intelligence, automation and digital twins so that manufacturers can work more quickly, accurately and sustainably, reducing errors, unnecessary physical samples and review times before reaching production,” explains Ana María Bernardeau, CEO of the company.


A new way to design garments

To respond to this challenge, the company has launched Twin Pattern Fit, a project that seeks to transform the way garments are designed, scaled and validated before they are manufactured.

The project uses a digital twin of the garment and its patterns to automate tasks that until now depended almost exclusively on the experience of designers and patronists.

All this translates into a much more efficient development process, since companies can detect possible incidents before manufacturing the first sample, reducing development times, errors and consumption of materials. "The goal is not to replace the knowledge of designers, patronists or production technicians, but to offer them more advanced tools to make better decisions and accelerate processes that today remain slow and complex," says Bernardeau.


Translating Patronage into Digital Language

One of the biggest challenges of the project is to digitize processes that have traditionally depended on the knowledge accumulated by professionals in the sector. It is necessary to understand all the technical logic behind its design and manufacture.

To bring all that complexity to the digital environment, Twin Pattern Fit integrates artificial intelligence, scaling algorithms, automation and digital twins within a single workflow that allows the garment to be evaluated in a digital environment before production.

Compared to conventional methods, this approach offers a clear advantage: anticipating decisions. “The company can digitally review a garment, check sizes, detect potential errors and reduce reliance on physical prototypes. This improves technical accuracy, shortens development times and facilitates more agile communication between design, patronage and production,” explains the CEO.


Sustainability begins before manufacturing

Digitalisation also has a direct impact on the sustainability of the sector. An important part of the environmental impact of a collection occurs even before the first garment is manufactured. Each physical prototype involves fabric consumption, transportation, revisions and new modifications that increase both costs and the use of materials.

Digitally validating a garment before producing it reduces that consumption of materials and avoids numerous subsequent corrections. In addition, the system facilitates a much more efficient management of personalization, an increasingly widespread trend in areas such as sport, on-demand collections or configurable products. “With digital tools, names, sizes, designs, combinations and adaptations can be managed in a more orderly way, reducing errors and facilitating manufacturing that is more in line with real demand,” says Ana María Bernardeau.

This approach contributes to moving towards a more efficient and responsible production model, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), by driving the digitalization of the sector, and SDG 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption), by reducing the consumption of materials, waste and the need to manufacture physical prototypes.


The impulse of the CDTI Innovation and NEOTEC Women

The development of such a technology requires significant investments in research and a high component of technological risk, especially in a newly created company. In this context, the support of the NEOTEC Women Entrepreneurs program of the CDTI Innovation has been a “decisive impulse” to accelerate the technological development of the company. “It allows us to tackle an ambitious project, strengthen the team and dedicate resources to R&D developments that require time, specialized knowledge and investment,” he says.

Beyond financing, the CEO of Dimtech 3D emphasizes that this support also strengthens the credibility of a young company in the sector: "It also means a highly relevant external validation of the technological potential of the project and its ability to bring value to the industry."

For Ana María Bernardeau, as an entrepreneur, this support also acquires a personal dimension: “Technology and industry are still areas in which it is necessary to make more female references visible. Programs such as NEOTEC Women Entrepreneurs help innovative companies led by women to grow, consolidate and compete in highly technological sectors."


The future of textiles will be digital

The digitalization of design and manufacturing processes will mark much of the evolution of the textile industry over the next few years. In a context in which collections must be developed in less time and with a more efficient use of resources, technologies such as Twin Pattern Fit aspire to become a common tool for manufacturers and design departments.

However, the challenge will not be solely technological. The integration of these solutions in the work processes and the formation of the teams will be decisive factors for the digital transformation to really reach the companies. “For a technology to be successful it is not enough that it is advanced; it has to be useful, understandable and applicable in the day-to-day life of a factory, a design department or a management team. Our goal is precisely to bring that innovation closer to the real work process of textile companies," he concludes.
