8ª Comisión Mixta Asturias
The collaboration between the CDTI and SEKUENS favors a greater participation of Asturian entities in national and international R+D+I programs

The collaboration agreements are one of the main instruments of coordination between the CDTI Innovation and the autonomous communities to promote business innovation, improve the complementarity of the instruments to support R+D+I and strengthen the access of companies to national and international financing opportunities.

In this context, the CDTI Innovation and the Asturian Agency for Science, Business Competitiveness and Innovation (Sekuens) have maintained the 8th Joint Monitoring Committee of the Convention for the Promotion of Innovation and Technological Development in the Principality of Asturias, signed in 2019 and extended in 2023, consolidating a stable framework of collaboration between both entities for the promotion of business innovation in the region.

During the meeting, held in the Scientific and Technological Park of Gijón, the main indicators of participation of the Asturian entities in the national programs managed by the CDTI Innovation have been reviewed, the results obtained in the different instruments of support for business R+D+I have been analyzed and the evolution of the projects approved in Asturias has been reviewed. Among the most outstanding actions are the Research and Development projects, the calls for Science and Innovation Missions, the Cervera programs and the NEOTEC grants aimed at technology-based companies, instruments that have contributed to strengthening the innovative capacity of the Asturian business fabric and to favor the development of technological projects of high added value. Currently, the portfolio of proposals under evaluation exceeds 80 requests, which reflects the dynamism and interest of the Asturian entities for the R+D+I support instruments of CDTI Innovation.

The Commission has also addressed the activity of the Innvierte program, an initiative of the CDTI Innovation that seeks to promote business innovation through support for venture capital investment in technology-based or innovative Spanish companies. In this area, Asturias currently has three approved investors linked to the program, strengthening regional capacities for the growth and scaling of technology companies.

At the international level, the participation of Asturian entities in the international R+D+I programs promoted by the CDTI Innovation has been analyzed. As a reference agency for the technological internationalization of Spanish companies, the CDTI promotes national participation in Horizon Europe and in multilateral technology cooperation initiatives such as Eureka, Eurostars, Iberoeka, PRIMA, European partnerships, bilateral programs and other international cooperation actions. It also provides specialized support to Spanish entities through its Network of International Delegations, facilitating access to new partners, markets and opportunities for international collaboration.

The Asturian participation in Horizonte Europa reflects a positive evolution. The success rate of the Asturian entities reaches 20.9%, standing above the national average and significantly improving the results obtained in H2020. In addition, the return of Asturias to the European Union as a whole continues to grow and is above the regional weight in the execution of European R&D spending, which reflects the competitiveness of its entities in the international arena.

The celebration of this Joint Committee reaffirms the commitment of the CDTI Innovation and the Sekuens Agency to the strengthening of the Asturian innovation ecosystem and to the promotion of the participation of companies, technological centers and research organizations in national and international financing programs that contribute to improving the competitiveness and technological capacity of the Principality of Asturias.
