The CDTI Innovation resolves the call for Science and Innovation Missions 2025 with 139 million in grants for 35 projects
- The call has resolved the financing of 35 projects supported with 138.99 million, with 165 operations and a total of 150 different participating companies
- Of the total number of projects supported, 18 specifically correspond to proposals of a dual nature to which 80 million linked to the Industrial Technological Plan for Security and Defense are allocated
The CDTI Innovation, the state innovation agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, has published the final resolution of the 2025 call for Science and Innovation Missions to promote research around transversal and strategic challenges, improve the knowledge and technology base of Spanish companies, stimulate public-private cooperation in R+D+I and strengthen the strategic autonomy of Spain in the field of defense.
In total, 150 different companies, of which 87 (58%) are SMEs, receive 139 million in grants to develop 35 projects in cooperation oriented to the missions of the call; in particular:
- Technological solutions to reduce hospital stays and healthcare pressure
- A responsible artificial intelligence
- An interconnected and secure industry that contributes to greater strategic autonomy
- Planning and territorial management to improve resilience and address climate risks
- Strategic sovereignty in key mineral raw materials for the industry and the energy transition
- Training for strategic autonomy in security and defense
In addition to the initial budget allocation of 60 million, in August 2025 the expansion of available funds linked to the Industrial Technological Plan for Security and Defense was added with an additional 80 million, which has allowed 18 of the 35 projects financed to be specifically of a dual nature, corresponding to the "Training for strategic autonomy in security and defense", with 79.55 million committed. It is followed, by volume of subsidy, by 5 projects of “Strategic sovereignty in the mineral raw materials fundamental for the industry and the energy transition” (17.5 million), 4 projects of “Sustainable mobility and decarbonization of collective and large volume transport” (15.3 million) and 4 projects of “An interconnected and safe industry that contributes to greater strategic autonomy” (14 million).

The participation of SMEs is very high, confirming the positive effect of the program to enable their participation and their ability to assume leadership in initiatives of high impact and ambition. Of the 150 different beneficiary companies grouped in 35 collaborative proposals, 87 are SMEs (58%) that receive 55% (75.8 million) of the total budget of the call for proposals. In addition, of the 35 funded proposals, 13 are led by SMEs.

In terms of regional distribution, by volume of funding received, the Community of Madrid stands out (33%), followed by the Basque Country (18%), Catalonia (13%) and Galicia (9%). Regarding the leadership of the beneficiary proposals, the pattern is similar, with the Community of Madrid leading 14 proposals, followed by the Basque Country (8) and Catalonia (3).

About 54.5% of the subcontracted amount corresponds to the challenge of “Training for strategic autonomy in security and defense”; 14% to the challenge “Strategic sovereignty in the mineral raw materials fundamental for the industry and the energy transition”; and just over 11% to the challenges of “Sustainable mobility and decarbonization of collective and large volume transport” and “An interconnected and safe industry that contributes to greater strategic autonomy”, respectively.
Profile of the announcement
- The projects will have an implementation period of three or four years and will begin on January 1, 2026.
- Presented by consortiums of between 3 and 6 companies that include at least one SME.
- One of the companies of the consortium will have to assume the coordination of the project.
- The budget of the projects will be between 3,500,000 euros and 15,000,000 euros.
- At least 40% of the budget allocated to industrial research.
- At least 15% of the budget earmarked for subcontracting to research agencies.
- The minimum budget per company must be 175,000 euros.
