The CDTI Innovation boosts Spanish participation in the REGIOSTARS 2026 European Awards

Organised annually by DG REGIO since 2008, the REGIOSTARS awards recognise outstanding EU-funded projects that drive regional development, becoming the European seal of excellence for initiatives that generate lasting impact and promote inclusion.

On May 22, the deadline for European companies to be able to apply for the REGIOSTARS 2024 competition ends

The European Commission has opened a new edition of the REGIOSTARS awards, an annual initiative that distinguishes the most innovative, impactful and inspiring projects funded by the European Union and that contribute to regional development and economic, social and territorial cohesion in Europe.

The 2026 edition includes five categories:

  • A competitive and intelligent Europe
    Promoting competitiveness, innovation and economic resilience
  • A green Europe
    The ecological transition as an engine of regional development
  • A connected Europe
    Improving mobility and connectivity between regions
  • Una Europa social e inclusiva
    Lograr una Europa más inclusiva aprovechando el talento regional
  • A Europe closer to the citizens
    Promoting the sustainable development of all types of territories

The deadline for submitting applications will remain open until May 22, 2026.  

 

Spanish participation in REGIOSTARS 2026

Those Spanish companies interested in submitting projects finalized and co-financed with ERDF in the 2014-2020 or 2021-2027 periods must send an email to comunicacion.fondoseuropeos@cdti.es, indicating in the subject “REGIOSTARS 2026 Competition”. The final selection of the participating projects must then be accepted by the Ministry of Finance.

Applications may be submitted in any of the official languages of the European Union. However, the finalist candidacies will have to defend their proposal in English during the European Week of Regions and Cities, which will be held in Brussels next October.
