The CDTI Innovation seeks a Spanish company to collaborate with Egypt in an R&D project on new packaging to protect stored grain
The initiative aims to develop packaging bags based on active polymers and nanocomposites to protect stored grain from insect pests and reduce post-harvest losses
The Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority of Egypt is looking for a Spanish company to collaborate in an R&D project aimed at the development of active packaging that helps protect stored grains against insect pests. The research will focus on the development of polypropylene films and bags that incorporate active agents, such as propolis extract and nanomaterials, and are subjected to radiation processing techniques to modify their properties and improve their performance.
The Egyptian entity will contribute its experience in radiation chemistry, polymer modification and development of nanocomposites. For its part, the Spanish company will contribute with its capabilities in polymer processing, bag manufacturing, prototype development and industrial scaling.
The project also aims to evaluate the mechanical and barrier properties of the materials, their effectiveness against insects and aspects related to food safety, environmental impact and applicable regulations.
The proposal is scheduled to be presented to the 2026 call for proposals of the ESIP program "Egypt Spain Innovation Programme", within the framework of the Spanish-Egyptian Bilateral Technological Cooperation Program, which will remain open until December 3, 2026.
