The CDTI Innovation seeks a Spanish company to collaborate with Egypt in an R&D project on animal feed based on microalgae
The initiative aims to develop a liquid nutritional supplement based on microalgal biomass and probiotic bacteria to improve bird feeding
The National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries of Egypt (NIOF), created in 1928 and with more than 1,000 employees, half of them dedicated to R&D activities, develops scientific research and technical services in the fields of oceanography, fisheries, aquatic resources, aquaculture and marine and freshwater environmental sciences. In this context, it is looking for a Spanish company to collaborate in an R&D project aimed at the development of a nutritional supplement for animal feed based on microalgae and probiotic bacteria.
This entity has identified several challenges facing the poultry industry in Egypt, related to the costs and availability of food, nutritional supplementation, disease pressure and environmental and productive stress factors that can affect food intake, nutritional status, growth and immune competence of birds. These challenges highlight the need to develop sustainable and effective nutritional solutions that complement conventional feeding and contribute to poultry production.
The R&D project aims to develop a standardized, stable and scalable liquid nutritional supplement, based on Arthrospira platensis biomass and selected probiotic bacteria. This format seeks to offer a complementary way for the supply of nutrients and functional components, especially during periods in which the consumption of conventional food can be reduced.
To this end, the project will integrate the controlled cultivation of microalgae and the characterization of biomass with the selection of probiotics, the development of the formulation, the study of the compatibility between microalgae and probiotics, stabilization, the evaluation of shelf life and biological validation in birds. The Egyptian partner will contribute his experience in the cultivation of microalgae, the production and characterization of biomass and the biological evaluation, while the Spanish company will contribute with complementary experience in formulation, stabilization, quality control, scaling, production and marketing.
In this context, we are looking for Spanish companies with proven experience in R&D and industry in the development, formulation, stabilization, production and marketing of functional nutritional products, feed additives, probiotics, microalgae-based products or related products intended for poultry and animal production.
The proposed proposal aims at its presentation to the call 2026 of the ESIP program "Egypt Spain Innovation Programme", within the framework of the Spanish-Egyptian Bilateral Technological Cooperation Program, which will remain open until December 3, 2026.
