The CDTI Innovation seeks a Spanish company to collaborate with Chile in the development of treatment of periodontal disease in pets with a formulation based on Antarctic bacteria
The initiative proposes the development and validation of PERIOCARE PET, an innovative treatment for periodontal disease in pets based on bioactive metabolites of an Antarctic extremophile bacterium, which combines selective pathogen suppression and modulation of the inflammatory response. The aim is to promote a safe, biocompatible and microbiome-friendly alternative to conventional treatments.
The biotechnology company PEWMAN INNOVATION of Chile requests the collaboration of a Spanish company that wants to participate in the development of PERIOCARE PET, a treatment of the most prevalent ailment in pets, periodontal disease.
Based on molecular characterization, the objective is to advance the phase prior to regulatory approval, through a formulation based on bioactive metabolites produced by an extremophilic bacterium isolated from Antarctic environments and owned by PEWMAN. The solution has a double action: the selective suppression of periodontal pathogens and the modulation of the inflammatory response.
The innovation seeks that the selective microbial activity with preservation of the microbiome allows to demonstrate the safety and high biocompatibility of the solution, based on a solid position of industrial property and robust in vitro evidence (TRL 4). The objective is to replace the conventional treatments of administration of antibiotics or dental hygiene carried out under anesthesia.
The project of international technological collaboration that will be carried out between PEWMAN and the Spanish company could be presented to the Eureka biotechnology call.Proposals will be accepted until 10 September.
PEWMAN seeks a European strategic partner to accelerate the formulation of the development of PERIOCARE PET with a view to its industrial scaling and commercial distribution in Europe, establishing a new global standard in periodontal treatment of animals.
PEWMAN already has experience of collaborating with some of the large companies in the pharmaceutical sector or the multinational pet care industries, through licensing agreements or joint developments.
